The private marketplace
built around your school community.

Where every great thing gets a next chapter.

Why schools partner with Sequel

A modern utility for your community — without operational lift.

01

Private by design

Each marketplace is bounded to the families of one school. Access is approved by your community manager. No public listings. No outside buyers. No exposure of children, ever.

02

Free to the school

No platform fee. No setup cost. No staffing burden. Sequel hosts the technology and supports the community; you simply approve who belongs and let the network do the rest.

03

A new path to giving

With Donate It, members can route the full proceeds of a sale to the school's 501(c)(3) — receiving a year-end tax receipt. A practical, recurring engine for your annual fund.

How it works

Four steps from sign-up to safe handoff.

  1. 1

    The school approves its community.

You decide who gets access — parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty. Your community manager controls roles on a single dashboard. We never sell or share your roster.

  2. 2

Members list items in under a minute.

Snap a photo. Our AI cleanly isolates the object on a neutral background and generates a polished product description. The seller adds condition notes and sets a price (minimum $10).

  3. 3

    Buyers purchase. Sellers stay anonymous.

Payment is captured at checkout through Stripe — credit, debit, Apple Pay, Google Pay. Each seller carries a rotating six-digit code, not a name. Identities are only exchanged once a transaction is confirmed.

  4. 4

    The exchange happens in person.

Items are handed off on campus or at a place the parties choose. Funds are released to the seller — or, with Donate It, directly to the school. No shipping, no logistics, no friction.

Built for trust

Safety isn't a feature. It's the architecture.

A school community is not a marketplace audience. It is a circle of trust. Sequel is engineered around that distinction — beginning with who can enter, and continuing through every interaction inside.

Straightforward, transparent, school-friendly.

Frequently asked

Questions schools ask first.

Who is allowed inside our marketplace?

Only the people your school approves. That typically includes current families, grandparents, alumni, faculty, and staff — but the school sets the rules. We never enroll a user without your authorization, and we do not share access with any other school's community.

What does our school actually have to do?

Designate a community manager to approve members. Communicate the launch to your families. That's it. Sequel handles the technology, payments, support, and ongoing operations. We do not require staff time, IT integration, or contract minimums.

How are children and family identities protected?

Children are never depicted in listings — our AI isolates the item being sold and removes its surroundings entirely. Sellers are anonymous to buyers during browsing, identified only by a rotating six-digit code. There is no facial recognition anywhere in Sequel. Identities are exchanged only between the two parties to a confirmed transaction.

How does the donation feature work?

Any seller can choose Donate It at the time of listing. When the item sells, the full proceeds are routed to the school's 501(c)(3) account. Sequel automatically generates the year-end tax receipt on the school's behalf — issued in the school's legal name and EIN, and delivered by email to the donor on file — and provides the school with a complete record of every donation for its annual fund ledger. No postage, no manual processing, no staff time required.

How does Sequel make money?

Two streams. A 10% fee on every transaction, which covers Stripe's payment processing as well as our hosting, support, and platform development. And local sponsor advertising — up to twelve sponsorship positions per school that rotate through four homepage placements over the year. We do not sell user data. We do not run third-party ad networks.

What kinds of items get sold?

Typically: clothing, jewelry and accessories, uniforms, sporting goods, instruments, home furnishings, books, laptops, electronics, gaming consoles, lawn and garden tools and equipment, seasonal items and much more. Anything legal, in good condition, and worth at least $10 (smaller items can be bundled).

What can't be sold?

Sequel does not support the sale of any item that requires a transfer of deed or title — including automobiles, boats, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, trailers, firearms, and real property. Anything illegal to sell under federal, state, or local law is also prohibited. Schools may publish additional disallowed categories specific to their community.

Can our school exit if it isn't working?

Yes. Partnership agreements include a clean off-ramp. There is no long-term contract obligation and no exit fee.
